About

The seaside town of Grand-Béréby, 378 km from Abidjan in the south-west of Côte d'Ivoire, is a haven for sea turtles. They breed here in complete safety, in Côte d'Ivoire's first and only marine protected area.

It's like a pilgrimage. Every year, between September and February, adult female turtles emerge from the sea at dusk to lay eggs on the beach of Grand-Béréby, a seaside town in south-west Côte d'Ivoire. After laying, the female turtles return to the sea, leaving their eggs under the protection of members of the non-governmental organization (NGO), Conservation des espèces marines (CEM).
