Located in the central-eastern part of the country, the district of the Lakes has the town of Dimbokro as its capital.

The vegetation is composed of wooded savannahs, grassy savannahs and gallery forests characteristic of the "V Baoulé" (transition zone between the southern forest and the northern savannah).

The climate of the region is similar to that of the tropics with an average temperature of 30°C. The majority of the population is Baoule, although there are also Agnis (Moronou region).

The district is full of natural sites, about 10 classified forests of about 40,000 ha. We note for example Rumbo Boka, Mando, Bodio...
